What's Included

Dudley Castle, West Midlands

Venture out with Haunted Houses on an overnight ghost hunt at the amazing Dudley Castle in the West Midlands. The castle started off as a wooden built design which was constructed shortly after the Norman Conquest in 1066. It was rebuilt with stone to make the castle stronger this proved well during a siege in 1153 by the order of King Stephen; however, after Gervase Paganel joined a failed rebellion against King Henry II in 1173 the castle was demolished by order of the King.

The castle was then rebuilt in the late 13th century where the castle keep and the main gate were constructed; along with a chapel and the great hall. Many visitors have graced the castle with their presence, the most infamous being Queen Elizabeth I.

Dudley castle is regarded as one of the most haunted castles in the UK. The first reported visitation was in 1870 by Harry Bentham who was a collector of ghost stories. The same ghosts were reported again in 1930 by a guide and two visitors. The story goes that they saw "two elderly people come around the keep dressed in 17th or 18th century clothes. They were walking arm in arm and the man held a crooked walking stick and a very tall hat. They then just disappeared".

Members of staff working in the undercroft have reported hearing strange moans and groans, icy blasts of air and doors opening and closing of their own accord; whilst also hearing disembodied footsteps walking away from them. Also in the castle chapel above the undercroft a monk has been reported to be seen within the window and several hooded figures have been spotted within the grounds. It is in this undercroft that there is a stone coffin believed to have once held the body of Lord John Somery. People have reported seeing legs at the side of this coffin. Other reports are feelings of clothes being tugged and people being prodded. Voices are also heard, so if you listen very carefully you may just hear a conversation from the past.

There is also a local legend of an old woman seen within the battlements. She is believed to have been a witch who committed suicide from these very walls. She is seen wearing sackcloth and a grey shawl with her feet wrapped in sacking.

One of the most popular claims of paranormal activity is that of the "Grey Lady" who is believed to be the spirit of Dorothy Beaumont who died at the castle in 1646 when the castle was besieged by parliamentary forces. She is such an infamous spirit that a local inn has been named after her. Dorothy lived in the castle and later gave birth to her daughter who unfortunately died during childbirth whilst other complications led to Dorothy's death shortly after.

Other reports are of a little Civil War drummer boy. He was killed by a single bullet by a 17th century musket. He is often heard banging his drum as if in battle. It is believed to be bad luck to hear or see him. Will you be lucky enough NOT to encounter him!

Dare you Join Haunted Houses team on this paranormal investigation at one of the most amazing locations which is besieged with history!
