Reported Ghosts

30 East Drive is infamous for being the home to Europe’s Most violent Poltergeist, who goes by many names, but most commonly known as Fred – or the black monk.

Said to be a powerful entity who means harm to the living, Fred was well documented regarding his haunting of the Pritchard family, who lived at Number 30 East Drive, from throwing objects around the house, destroying furniture and causing great suffering to the family he terrorised.

Today there are still strange things going on at 30 East Drive, dark shadows are seen, peculiar noises heard, and objects thrown. People who ignore all warnings enter this house at their own risk!

Venue History

Mother Jean Pritchard, Father Joe Pritchard, 15-year-old Phillip and 12-year-old Diane took up residency in their new family home at number 30, East Drive Pontefract in August 1966.

It was shortly after the move that Phillip and his Grandmother noticed something very odd – a fine layer of chalk like dust that fell from the ceiling, but from around head height as if out of thin air.

With need to clean up this dust before Jean and Joe returned from a holiday, Phillip’s Aunty Mrs. Kelly, who had been fetched by her mother to observe the falling dust made her way to the kitchen to get a dust pan to clean up, but she quickly found herself slipping in a pool of water on the floor, that despite all effort could not be mopped up as it kept reappearing in front of their eyes!

This incident was the very start of many years of inexplicable events for the Pritchard family at 30 East Drive; Green sludge was said to appear from the taps and toilet, even if the water was turned off from the mains, dried tea was thrown about the kitchen, lights were said to turn on and off, potted plants thrown from their containers, cupboards and doors were rattled, including a heavy sideboard.

The local press heard about the stories from 30 East Drive and gave the poltergeist the name of “Mr. Nobody” – but to the Pritchard family they simply called him “Fred” in a hope of making him appear less threatening and yet despite many attempts, Fred could not be exercised from the house or be persuaded to leave the family in peace. Mocking those who tried!

Poltergeists are not known to cause harm to people, and although Fred did cause a few bumps and scrapes to the family, along with the heart stopping scares, all his energy seemed to revolve around Diane. Unlike most poltergeists Fred was violent, very violent! Later on in Fred’s haunting of Diane as she was exiting her adolescence things reached climatic proportions. One evening Diane’s hair stood on its end, which then followed with Diane being violently dragged in terror up the stairs and thrown into her bedroom leaving physical finger marks on her throat. An event which took her a long time to recover from.

Today, 30 East Drive is said to still house Fred, waiting for his next “Diane” to torment.
