Reported Ghosts
Whispers of unseen entities echo through the dimly lit corridors of the foreboding, gothic Llanerchydol Hall, sending shivers down the spines of both visitors and staff. From unexplained murmurs drifting in the air to unsettling sensations of being watched, the atmosphere is thick with an otherworldly presence.
Ghostly apparitions materialize out of the shadows, their spectral forms haunting the ancient halls. A visitor’s heart skips a beat as a porcelain vase inexplicably crashes to the floor, shattering into countless pieces. Down in the depths of the cellar, eerie scratching noises mingle with mournful cries, sending chills down the spine of anyone brave enough to venture near.
Venue History
Llanerchydol, deriving its name from ‘Llanerch Hudol’, translating to ‘Magical’ or ‘Enchanted’ Glade, boasts a storied past intertwined with the Princes of Powys, notably Llywelyn ap Gruffudd and Gruffydd ap Gwenwynwyn.
The site has a long history of occupation, including a Tudor house that succumbed to fire in 1776. David Pugh, a local who amassed wealth trading tea in London, rebuilt the estate, birthing Llanerchydol Hall. Over 136 years of Pugh ownership, the hall underwent numerous transformations, notably the Gothic Revival alterations in 1820, including fairy-tale castellations and turrets, with John Repton enlisted to craft the surrounding parkland and gardens. The hall was sold in 1912 to Hugh Verdon, and remained in the Verdon family until 1985, when the last remaining daughter Angela died aged 97.
Since then, Llanerchydol Hall has changed hands, though its essence, nestled within five acres of picturesque countryside, remains steeped in history, awaiting restoration to its former splendour by its current owners, a group of dedicated friends who acquired the property in early 2022.
