Your ghost hunt at Margam Castle will see you exploring all areas of the building made available to us. You will be able to experience experiments such as glass divination, table tipping and a group human pendulum. For those comfortable enough, Ouija boards will also be on hand for you to use, all to aid your communication with the dead. Also, you will have a whole host of up-to-date ghost hunting gadgets to use whilst you carry out your ghost hunt. Take part in spirit call-outs and wait to see what happens in the silence that follows. Haunted Houses likes to work in small groups to give you the very best experience possible. And, for the very brave, lone vigils (ghost hunting in a room all alone) are very popular and plenty of opportunities to do so will be given.

Reported Ghosts
Over Many years high levels of paranormal reports have come from those who have dared to enter Margam Castle after dark. There are often reports of icy blasts, light anomalies are seen to seemingly drift in the darkness and stones have been violently thrown at unsuspecting ghost hunters during vigils. It is said that Margam Castle is rife with psychic energy.
A well reported spirit who is said to haunt Margam is that of Robert Scot, a violent spirit who hurls objects and slams doors in protest of your presence – If you ever get the feeling of being unwelcomely watched, you can count on it being from Robert.
Robert Scot is thought to of been a game keeper who worked at the Castle in the 19th Century, and it is thought that he was murdered by a poacher which has resulted in him becoming a raging spirit to any uninvited guest of Margam Castle. It is widely thought Roberts causes much of the activity we can encounter today.
A dark figure thought to be that of a blacksmith has been witnessed here by many of the current staff, also with the sound whispering voices that hush to silence as you enter the room to investigate them.
The sounds of children laughing can be heard in the silence of the night, echoing through the empty corridors and rooms of this listed property. Children have also been seeing wearing Victorian period dress, causing mischief to anybody the encounter.
Venue History
Built during 1830 to 1840, Margam Castle is a grand Victorian country house in the Gothic revival style that dominates the countryside of Margam, Port Talbot in South Wales. It was built for Christopher Rice Mansel Talbot and was constructed over a ten-year period due to its grandness and size.
Margam Castle was built on a site that had been occupied for over 4’000 years, including this also being a site of a former monastery which had stood there since the 11th century until the dissolution, parts of this monastery can still be seen today, and the spirit of a monk has been itself witnessed by some Haunted Houses guests on a previous visit here.
Margam Castle continues to be passed down the Talbot family line until 1941, when it was then sold to David Evans-Bevan. On it’s purchase Mr. Evans-Bevan found Margam Castle to large to be a home and also struggled to find any organisations with the means to take on the building, so it fell into disrepair and passed to the local authority and remained closed off to the public. In 1977 substantial damage was caused by a great fire, but this was in a way a catalyst for change as it prompted a huge restoration project of this now Grade I listed property.
