Reported Ghosts

Everybody loves the atmosphere of a spooky old pub, and the Lamb Inn is said to have it’s fair share of resident spirits and ghosts – what with so much history it’s hard to imagine how it couldn’t.

Tales are told of dark figures that dwell in corners, icy blasts are felt in a doorway to the breakfast room, and footsteps from above are a frequent report. Objects have been known to of moved from their original placement, to turn up again in obscure places.

Will you encounter the spirit of a gentleman who has been said to be one for touching the living, will you feel his cold touch during your vigils? Heavy bangs in the complete darkness have been heard, so will you be brave to follow our suggestion of going into complete darkness to heighten your hearing, and call out for taps, bangs, whistles and voices to be heard?

Venue History

The Old Lamb Inn is a Grade II listed building in Theale, Reading. Built in 1487 and constructed of old brick beneath a thatched roof. It is claimed to be the oldest building in Theale.

The Lamb Inn served its early years as a coaching inn on a main route into London and has had regular custom of many famous people including visits from highwayman Dick Turpin, who is said to have hidden in a secret room within the Inn on many occasions.

The building was later converted in two cottages around 1870 – and then restored firstly as a teahouse in 1948, and later as a motel. Today it operates as a hotel and in the main building it retains its original features such as beamed walls and ceilings from reclaimed ship’s timbers, a large open fireplace bearing the royal coat of arms of King Henry V11, including fire irons dating back to 1660. Old graffiti can also be seen scratched into one of the leaded window panes from 1704. The original cellars and thatched roof also remain.
