Reported Ghosts
A ghostly monk is often witnessed gliding silently through the room above the Baronial Hall, moving along a passage before vanishing into thin air. Will you be in the right place at the right time to encounter him on your Penrhyn Old Hall Ghost Hunt?
The Pugh family once called Penrhyn Old Hall home. Their devout Catholic faith led to a tragic and gruesome event—one that still haunts the building to this day. A young daughter, barely more than a teenager, was brutally murdered by her own family. Her crime? Falling in love with a Protestant boy. She had planned to elope, but her family could not allow the marriage to happen. In a shocking act of betrayal, her own sisters took her life to prevent it.
It is said that this lost soul, murdered simply for loving the wrong person, still lingers on the stairway. Is she searching for her lover, or seeking vengeance for her untimely demise?
Other Spirits of Penrhyn Old Hall

Venue History
In the 16th century, Plas Penrhyn, as it was then known, stood as a grand Tudor mansion, built primarily from stone. It is believed to have been constructed on the site of a royal palace dating back to the 8th century. Could spirits from this bygone age still linger? Many believe that the land itself retains hauntings, even when the buildings are long gone.
During this time, Penrhyn Old Hall was owned by the Pugh family, staunch Catholic sympathisers who risked everything to shelter Catholic priests in an era when Protestantism was the law of the land. Secret services were held in the chapel outside, while hidden priest holes—such as one concealed within a fireplace inside the Hall—offered refuge during brutal crackdowns.
Among those who sought safety here was Robert Pugh and Catholic priest William Davies. When discovered, they fled to Little Orme in Llandudno, hiding in a cave where they secretly smuggled in a printing press, using it to produce Wales’ first-ever book. Though they evaded capture in 1587, their luck ran out in 1592 at Holyhead. While Robert Pugh managed to escape, William Davies was convicted, sentenced to a brutal death, and hanged, drawn, and quartered in Beaumaris.
Years later, a withered hand, believed to have been severed from William Davies’ body, was discovered hidden within a secret case inside Penrhyn Old Hall. Does his restless spirit still roam the Hall, seeking justice?
With its rich and bloody history, could these past souls make themselves known to you during your Penrhyn Old Hall Ghost Hunt? Book your place—if you dare.

The staff were very funny, easy going and very natural in their group spirit. I felt comfortable to approach them. They didn’t pressure audience members to take part in events and they were very organised in their approach to the night. My thanks to Becky for her support throughout the night.
